Fed: Visa to launch campaign on merchant surcharges
CANBERRA, Jan 16 AAP - Visa International will launch a public campaign this weekendwarning shopkeepers of the consequences of charging consumers extra for using their creditcards.
Reserve Bank reforms allowed shops to slug consumers with a surcharge for using theircredit cards from January 1, although few businesses have taken up the opportunity.
Visa International said surcharging had the potential to increase living costs forcredit card holders and their families, and it was important both consumers and merchantswere informed about the change.
